What fits in 20 minutes

Twenty minutes fits a surprising amount if you decide what it is for before you start:

  • One focused reading section, with notes.
  • A brisk walk, or a short workout.
  • A study sprint on a single topic followed by a two-minute self-test.
  • Group work in class, with the countdown on the board.
  • Cooking prep: chop everything before you turn on the heat.

Day math: three 20-minute blocks fit in an hour of work and breaks; four of them with 5-minute breaks between take 1 hour 35 minutes.

20 minute timer with relaxing music

Twenty minutes suits a nap, a yoga or stretching session, reading time in class, or a gentle focus block on a tired day. Nothing interrupts it: no ads, no autoplay video. Play rain for a steady wash of sound, or the Nova Classical playlist, which runs about 25 minutes and so covers the whole timer.

Playlists play in full when you are logged in to Spotify; logged out, the player plays 30-second previews.

The rain sound is marked Suggested in the timer above. Start it at a low volume.

Want breaks built in?

The closest interval method is the 25/5 Pomodoro timer: 25 minutes of focus, then a 5 minute break, on repeat, with a 15 minute break after every 4 blocks.
